SRINAGAR: Preparations for the special short session of the assembly have started. The session will be exclusively for discussing and debating the GST law that will be implemented from July 1, the day GST will be rolled out across India.

Haseeb A. Drabu, Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today. He briefed the Governor about the decisions taken in the yesterday’s Cabinet meeting and explained the broad framework of the proposed legislation to enforce Goods and Services Tax in J&K.

Governor discussed with Drabu several issues regarding effective fiscal management and its direct co-relation with increased resource mobilisation which is inescapable for advancing the pace of socio-economic development of the State.

Exercising powers conferred upon him under Section 53(1) of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N.N.Vohra, issued orders today for summoning the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council to meet at Srinagar on Saturday, the 17th   day of June, 2017, at 11.00 A.M.

Meanwhile, in connection with forthcoming special Assembly Session, the Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta, today visited the Assembly Complex to take stock of the arrangements.

The Speaker was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Nazir Gurezi, Secretary J&K Legislative Assembly and Director Estates.

Kavinder inspected various sections of Assembly Complex including Assembly Hall, Lobby, Meeting halls, other VIP Chambers besides other arrangements put in place for upcoming session.

The Speaker was informed that all necessary arrangements have been put in place and adequate security staff has been deployed within the premises to facilitate smooth entry of the legislators and media-persons.

Besides, provisions have also been made to setup additional mobile X-Ray screening security system inside the complex for secondary screening of small bags, brief cases and other paraphernalia to ensure fool-proof arrangements for safety and security.

The Speaker was informed that installation of the hotline telephone facility in the assembly lobby will be ensured soon in coordination with the concerned Departments.

The Speaker also issued necessary instructions for repairs and renovation and other related civil and electrical works to avoid any kind of inconvenience during the forthcoming session.
