SRINAGAR: Mian Altaf Ahmed, a prominent Gujjar leader, and senior National Conference (NC) leader, has said that he was denied permission to visit Poonch and Rajouri districts, where three civilians lost their lives in the aftermath of a militanmt ambush in which four soldiers lost their lives.
In a statement issued Mian, a five-time lawmaker, expressed his disappointment, stating that he had sought permission from authorities to assess the situation and extend condolences to the families of the victims. However, he alleged that the authorities denied him permission to visit the affected areas.
“I felt it a responsibility to visit the area and meet the families to express my grief and offer condolences to the families of the three persons. However, unfortunately, the authorities denied permission and didn’t allow me to visit there,” said Altaf in the statement.
While acknowledging the compensation and job announcements made by the Jammu and Kashmir administration for the deceased’s families, Mian urged for a more substantial compensation amount. “I demand that a compensation amount of Rs 1 crore should be given to the kin of the deceased civilians,” he stated, calling for a transparent and swift probe into the incident by the Lieutenant Governor administration.
