The Gujjar and Bakkarwal community Wednesday celebrated victory of nine community leaders who have been elected as Members of Legislative Assembly in election 2014.
A number of carnival was organised by the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation – frontal organisation of Gujjars of state today at different places in Poonch , Rajouri and Jammu and expressed extreme happiness on performance of community leaders in this election.
Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary of the Foundation said that Gujjars in J&K form third largest chunk of population after Kashmiri and Dogra and they are playing a laudable role in democratic process since 1947. In this election they have made a massive participation in democratic process.
He said to motivate the Tribal and nomadic voters to participate in voting with full enthusiasm and Zeal the Foundation has organised a number of programmes at different areas of the State which received huge response and results on the ground.
The speakers on the occasion congratulated all the 7 community MLAs from Jammu province and 2 from Kashmir Valley for their extra ordinary performance in the recent election.
He said this is for the first time that 5 out of 7 MLAs elected from Poonch and Rajouri districts are from Tribal Gujjar ethnicity. They are Ch. Javaid Rana on National Conference ticket from Mehndhar, Akram Chowdhary on Congress ticket from surankote Poonch, Chowdhary Qammar Hussain on PDP ticket from Rajouri, Zulafkar Chowdhary on PDP ticket from Darhal and Abdul Ghani Kohli on BJP ticket from Kalakote constituencies.
The speakers also congratulated two sibling brothers and son of veteran Gujjar leader late Haji Buland Khan , Aijaz Ahmed Khan and Mumtaz Ahmad Khan for their massive victory from Gool Arnas and Gulab Ghar constituencies on Congress tickets.
The speakers hailed the role of Mian family in politics as since the establishment of Constituted Assembly a member from this family represented Gujjars in the house. The Victory of Mian Altaf Ahmad from Kangan for fifth time is in itself a history. They also praised the role of Gujjars in victory of Haq.
The speakers also said that a number of Gujjar candidate are remained runner in the election and lost election with narrow margin.
The speakers said that Gujjars remained winner on 13 constituencies and having a size able population in 22 others. They are in good numbers in each constituencies of the State and hence can turn the table any time.
