SRINAGAR: The famous tourist resort Gulmarg witnessed the first snowfall of the season today on Saturday much to the delight of visitors who turned playful.

Amid fresh snowfall at Gulmarg, Kashmir valley’s plains reaches have received light rainfall.

The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of light rain in plains and also said that there is no forecast of any major rainfall activity.

Director Met Sonam Lotus said that the weather may improve from Sunday and will remain mainly dry for a week.

He said that Srinagar city recorded a maximum temperature of minus 28.3 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Qazigund town of south Kashmir was 28.1 degrees Celsius while nearby Kokernag town registered 27.5 degrees Celsius.

Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded 20.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town recorded 28.5. The temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at 25.7 degrees.

Jammu city recorded 35.8, Katra 31.5, Batote 26.3, Banihal 27.8 and 29.1 in Bhaderwah.

Reports from Bhaderwah said the Kailash mountain range, Padri Gali and Asha Pati Glacier surrounding Bhadarwah witnessed fresh snowfall that resulted in the fall of temperatures. Gujjars and Bakerwals inhibiting high mountains with their herds have started coming down, reports added.
