SRINAGAR: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has ordered the suspension of snowmobile operations in Gulmarg and Kongdori with effect from April 13, marking the end of the winter season amid declining snow conditions.
According to an official order issued on April 9, the decision aims to prevent environmental degradation and protect the fragile ecosystem and scenic character of the tourist destination.
The GDA stated that snowmobile services, allowed only as a seasonal activity, cannot continue beyond the stipulated period as they may adversely affect the area’s environment.
All registered operators have been directed to stop operations from the specified date and remove their snowmobiles from Kongdori after obtaining necessary permissions.
The Enforcement Head of the GDA has been authorised to issue transport passes for the removal of snowmobiles, subject to submission of required records to the authority.
