SRINAGAR: A slow pace gun battle has started between militants and a joint posse of counter-insurgent in Shopian, reports reaching here said. Both the sides are exchanging fire.

Reports said the security grid comprising police, CRPF and troops from 44-RR cordoned off a particular cluster in Jan Mohalla at around 12 noon. The first fire was reported at around 3 pm. Since then the two sides are exchanging fire.

“Encounter has started at Shopian town. Police and security forces are on the job,” a police spokesperson tweeted.

The encounter has disrupted life in the entire town. Police sources said a group of militants are trapped in a particular place.
