Gunfight breaks out in south Kashmir’s Shopian

A gunfight broke out between militants and the counter insurgent forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday morning.

Reports said the gunfight broke out after a joint team of army, Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Wachi area of Zainapora in Shopian district.

They said the hiding militants, opened fire on the forces when they were challenged, triggering a heavy exchange of fire.

While the confirming the news, Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “#Encounter has started at #Shopian. #Police & security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
