Srinagar: An encounter has been started between the government forces and militants in Palhalan area of Pattan village of district Baramulla on Friday morning.

An official said that government forces launched a cordon and search operation in Palhalan village of district Baramulla after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

He said the search operation turned into an encounter as the government forces were fired upon by the militants.

Reportedly Two militants are believed to be trapped the area.

They said that militants opened fire on the forces during the searches around 5 am today, triggering a gunfight.

The gunfight was on when reports last came in.
