Gunshots were heard in Pinjoora village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday during a search operation launched by a mixed contingent of police, army and the paramilitary forces.

Reports said that a joint team of forces including army, police and paramilitary men launched a cordon and search operation in the area following specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the village.

As the forces approached the spot hiding militants started firing. The firing was reported in Gagloora, a satellite village of Pinjoora.

Top police sources in Srinagar confirmed that after the initial exchange of fire militants fled from the site.

The search operation was going on when this report was filled.
