A special police officer (SPO) was injured in a gunfight at Deyarwani area of Batamalo in Srinagar district on Sunday.
Reports said that a joint team of Police and CRPF cordoned off Deyarwni area of Batamaloo late last night.
A senior police officer said that the cordon was launched in the area following specific inputs about the presence of the militants.
While the cordon was laid around the targeted house the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering off an encounter, he said.
The officer said that one policeman suffered critical injuries in the initial gunfire.
When reports last came in the exchange of firing has been stopped and searches were going on.
