SRINAGAR: A gunfight broke out between militants and counter insurgent forces in Methan area in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Saturday.

Reports said that a joint team of CRPF and Police launched a cordon and search operation in Methan area after having credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
As the joint team of Police and CRPF approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces triggering an encounter.
When last reports came intermittent firing was going on.
Earlier police said that a militant was killed in a shootout at Natipora area of Srinagar.
He was identified as Aqib Bashir Kumar of Trenz village of Shopian and was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, said police.
