Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar Thursday said that Rs 40 lakh has been released to each district in Kashmir division to cater the loss caused by the recent snowfall in valley.

“650 buildings have been partially damaged in the snowfall,” Kumar said in a press conference in Srinagar. “And, seven schools have been completely damaged in the avalanche.”

He said that avalanche was triggered in North Kashmir’s Bandipora and in Damhal Hanjipora.  “Gurez and Shopian received major snowfall with highest snowfall recorded at 3.5 foot [42 inches],” he said.

Kumar said that on March 15, the weather condition is likely to be uncertain.
