A seventy years old lady from north district Kupwara has moved an application in the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking inquiry in the disappearance of his son in 1991. The lady has alleged that despite pleading before the police for the registration of an FIR regarding the matter, police has shown cold response to her pleas.

In her petition to SHRC Habla Begum wife of  Late Ab. Khaliq Wani resident of  Devar Lolab has said that her son Zahoor Ahmad Wani 22 left the home in the morning on the fateful day of January 5, 1991 for visiting a nearby market but never returned back.

“I repeatedly approach the police authorities for registration of FIR and conducting enquiry about the disappearance but police has shown cold shoulder towards me. I even approached the then deputy commissioner of the concerned district and made a representation before the then SSP Kupwara. The verification No of the said representation is 559/5AA/PSL dated: 09-11-2004 by P/S Lalpora who admit that the victim Zahoor Ahmed Wani is missing and was not affiliated with militant and subversive activity but it has not been ascertained till date,” The petition reads.

The petition submitted through Ahsan Untoo  Chairman, International Forum For Justice (IFJ), a local human rights organization has requested the SHRC to look into the matter and see whether the disappeared person is dead or alive.

The petition has prayed that the  Commission may take cognizance of the matter and inquiry in the said disappear person may be conducted and compensate the victims mothers, Habla Begum and make arrangements for well being of her or else declare the persons status the compensation of at least to the tune of Rs.75 lacs.
