Awami Action Committee head and APHC (M) Chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday inaugurated the event by donating his own blood. A large number of students also donated their blood. Senior Hurriyat leader Javaid Ahmad Mir was present on the occasion, an amalgam statement said.

Giving details, the statement said that senior doctors and HOD’s including Dr Salim Wani, Dr Khurshid Aalam, Dr Parvez Koul, Dr Gul Javed, Dr Najeeb Drabu, Dr Altaf Kawoosa, Dr Imran Hafiz, Dr Showket Ahmad, Dr Yasmeen Qanungo, Dr Sameer Ahmad, Dr Ghazala Mehmood, Dr Mohammad Ashraf, Dr Andleeb and Unani doctors also participated and treated around 2200 people in the free medical camp. Apart from distributing free medicines among the needy, many doctors also volunteered to donate  blood at the camp.

In connection with the Hafta Shahadat week, various symposiums seminars and rallies are being organized across Kashmir to commemorate the Kashmiri martyrs.

Mirwaiz addressed a public gathering at the local  park in Rainawari Area and later  offered Fatiha at the martyrs grave yard in Khanyar, the statement informed.

He also visited the martyrs grave yard at Naqashbandh Sahab (RA).

“While paying rich to the martyrs of 1931 who laid the foundation of freedom struggle in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz termed their sacrifices as an important milestone in the history of Kashmir which reflects their commitment and resolve towards freedom struggle,” the statement added.

Addressing  delegates of AAC at Khanyar, Mirwaiz stated that the movement which was started by Muhajar-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Yousuf Shah under the banner of Muslim Conference in 1931 was taken forward by Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq in 1964 by announcing the formation of AAC at Gol Bagh during a rally attended by lakhs of people, the statement further said.

“Inspite of all the difficulties and hurdles created in the path of the party to take forward its agenda, the party has not given up its resolve and has always advocated and stood for the solution of Kashmir in accordance with the aspirations and sentiments of the people,” Mirwaiz said.

Addressing the delegates of Nawakadal zone at central chowk Nawakadal, Mirwaiz said, “the people of old city both in terms of lives and property have offered great sacrifices for the cause of freedom.” He said AAC would never forget or ignore the sacrifices of Kashmiris and neither would it allow any compromise on it.
