Intense hailstorm created havoc in dozens of villages in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday evening.
People from the affected villages told Kashmir Life that hailstorm which continued for half an hour was followed by heavy rains that created havoc in dozens of villages.
They said maize, paddy saplings, apple and cherry orchards were badly hit in Poshpora, Shumnag, Trehgam, Hanjipora, Kunan, Hirri, Batergam, Drugmulla, Kralpora and several other villages.
People who earn their living mostly from agricultural and horticultural products in these areas have incurred loss worth lakhs of rupees.
Locals urged the district administration to make an on-spot assessment of the damage to agriculture and horticulture.
