Police Sunday paid homage to slain constable Zaheer Abbas Khan resident of Poonch, who lost life in gunfight at Hajin area of Bandipora, was held at DPL Srinagar.

According to police spokesman, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh led civil and officers of government forces in laying the floral wreaths to the body of the slain cop.

Among others Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmad Khan, IG Traffic Jagjit Kumar, DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat were present.

Spokesman said Zaheer Abbas is survived by aged parents, wife, three minor children, ten-year-old Mehtab Zaheer, eight-year-old Manik Ahmad and five-year-old Sumaira Zaheer.

Giving details, spokesman said that Bandipora police along with 13RR and 45 Bn CrPF launched a cordon and search operation in Mir Mohalla area of Bandipora district.

During search operation, spokesman said militants hiding in the area fired upon the joint search party. “One police constable namely Zaheer Abbas Khan was injured during the encounter who was shifted to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and achieved martyrdom.”
