SRINAGAR: Former minister and Senior National Conference leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Tuesday lamented the government over the Agnipath scheme, saying the move will not only jeopardize the future of the youngsters but will also have serious ramifications on the national security, especially in the wake of the hostile neighbourhood.

“In the larger national interest and to address the concerns of the youth across the country, the government should immediately withdraw the scheme and put a halt to the ongoing process initiated by all the three services,” Sadhotra said while addressing a public meeting at Thalwal in Marh Assembly Constituency which was organised by Manmohan Organiser of the Block.

Sadhotra expressed surprise over taking such anti-youth decisions without discussing the policy issues in a democratic spirit in Parliament and taking the stakeholders on board.

He said the entire nation is standing with the discontented youth and is really concerned over the crucial issue of the national security in the backdrop of the developments taking place on the LAC and the LoC.

The Former Minister said that the issues flagged by the protesting youth about their being left in lurch after serving just four years in the armed forces deserve consideration by the government that be, as such steps impact the morale of valiant young people who keep nation first and proudly offer themselves for laying their lives for safeguarding the integrity and sovereignty of the nation.

“What an irony, instead of patronising the brave patriotic youth, the BJP is trivialising their valour and love for the nation,” Sadhotra said and referred To the insensitive remarks made by a senior saffron party leader Kailash Vijayvargiya suggesting that he will give priority to ‘Agniveers’ for security jobs at his party office.

He criticised the Centre over the Agnipath Scheme, describing it a copycat for adopting  ideas from foreign nations to draft such policies.

Sadhotra hoped that the Centre will appreciate the enormity of the anger among the youth and rollback the order as they did in case of the three farm laws. Such a step and course correction will further motivate and inspire the young people to serve the nation with a sense of pride, he added.

Sadhotra hoped that good sense will prevail over the BJP so that they desist from  testing the patience of youth, who are already grappling with the burgeoning unemployment that has further aggravated in the recent past. He described such moves as desperate acts of diverting attention as the government has failed in generating employment and providing jobs as promised in  2014 and 2019.

“We pray sense to prevail upon the BJP that has brought the country to morass by plunging it to unprecedented inflation, misgovernance and the developmental crisis,” Sadhotra said.
