On September 5, when every school was busy in observing Teachers Day, the Government Middle School in Bowan Rajwar area of North Kashmir’s Handwara town was locked. This school is closed for the students from past two months.

Reports said that Government Middle School Bowan was constructed by Education on a private land on the condition that the son of the landowner would be adjusted in Education Department.

The landholder Ghulam Hassan Bhat alleged that instead of providing job to his son, the Department adjusted another person in the Department in lieu of bribe.

Residents of the area told CNS that the landowner has closed the school and as a result more than 100 students seeking education in the School has suffering badly. “The irony is that higher authorities are mum over the issue and did not bother to persuade the landholder,” residents said.

When contacted, Chief Education Officer Handwara, R.K.Pandit said that he does not have any knowledge about the matter. “I would seek details from ZEO and would send a team to investigate the matter,” he said.
