An army Major, S Dhaiya, who was earlier injured in a gunfight with militants in Handwara district has succumbed to injuries.
Reports said that the Major had received grievous injuries during the encounter in which three Lashkar militants were killed.
“Major S Dhaiya, who was leading the operation in which three militants were killed at Hajan, Handwara today succumbed to his injuries sustained in the operation,” Def PRO, Col Rajesh Kalia told Kashmir Life.
The gunfight has so far consumed four lives including three militants and the army major.
