The second militant killed in a gunfight with the government forces in Babagund village of Langate area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday has been identified as a resident of Sopore.

Reports said that the second militant whose identity remained unknown since yesterday evening was identified as Lashkar militant Ishfaq Majid Mir of Brath Kalan Sopore.

His body was handed over to his family today following which it was taken to his native Brath Kalan village where a large number of people have assembled to take part in his last rites.

Mir was killed along with an associate in a 56-hour long gunfight in Babagund village in Langate area on Sunday.

Five forces personnel and a civilian were also killed during the gunfight. Eleven forces personnel including a CRPF officer were injured in the gunfight.
