Srinagar

Since morning a video is making rounds on social media sites showing government forces thrashing and manhandling both teachers and students inside the campus. However Kashmir Life couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of the video clip.

As per an eyewitness, “Police used teargas shells and batons to disperse the protesting youth.” Several students were injured in the incident.

The caller also informed that the office of the principal and the admission block were partially damaged.

When Kashmir Life contacted principal government degree college Handwara, he refused to comment and remained tight lipped about the incident.

But police officials at Handwara police control room (PCR) confirmed the incident. “We were there to control the situation as students were protesting. We had to fire some tear smoke shells,” said a police official.

Meanwhile the family members of slain Shahid are aghast as the FIR into the matter is yet to be entertained.

“Deputy Commissioner Kupwara had promised a swift action into the matter but nothing has happened till today,” said a family member of Shahid.
