Jammu and Kashmir Police late Thursday evening said that situation remained “largely peaceful” throughout Kashmir Valley though a few incidents of stone pelting were reported from Handwara and Srinagar.

“Miscreants pelted stones in Magam Handwara, Zakoora and HMT areas of Srinagar. The deployments exercised maximum restraint and there were no reports of injuries to any civilian although some cops were injured one of them seriously who was referred to Srinagar from Handwara,” J&K Police spokesperson said in its statement.

“General public is once again requested to please refrain from indulging in lawlessness, remain calm and help the administration in maintaining peace and order,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, another youth was Thursday evening injured in Handwara town due to “tear gas shell” and was rushed to SMHS here, his family said.

The youth identified as Javaid Maqbool Bhat son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat of Bhat Mohalla of Handwara was “hit by the shell in his lower abdomen during clashes with police” in the town Thursday evening.

“We rushed Javaid to Handwara sub district centre where doctors advised us to rush him to SMHS,” Khazir Mohammad, uncle of Javaid told KNS.
