Kashmir’s prized Hangul has accidentally slipped into icy waters of Baglihar Lake near Batote, reports said.

The deer is struggling in the waters for past two days. “All efforts of the wild life department and police to rescue it have failed so far,” report said.

Hangul is a rare sub-specie of red deer native to India. It is found in dense riverine forests in the high valleys and mountains of the Kashmir Valley and Chenab valley region of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Kashmir, it’s found in the Dachigam National Park where it receives protection.
