Government on Sunday imposed Curfew-like restrictions in parts of Downtown Srinagar falling under 5 police stations including, Nowhatta, Safa Kadal and MR Gunj.
Hurriyat Conference (m) is scheduled to commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of Late Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq, Late Abdul Gani Bhat and Hawal Martyrs today.
Reports reaching here, said that police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in strength at various entry exit points of old-city to thwart people’s procession towards martyrs graveyard Eidgah.
The forces’ vehicles were seen patrolling the streets while barricades have been erected at several places.
Meanwhile, the Joint Resistance leadership has appealed people to make Eidgah march a success. They have also called for a complete shutdown today on Sunday to commemorate the sacrifices of Hawal martyrs.
At least 67 people were killed and hundreds injured when the paramilitary troops opened fire on a peaceful procession carrying body of Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulana Mohammad Farooq on May 21 in 1990.
