SRINAGAR: In a heartfelt gesture of support, Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Masood, visited Sumbal in Bandipora to offer condolences to the family of Abida Lone, who tragically succumbed to her injuries following a grenade attack in Srinagar last week.
Expressing deep sympathy, Sakeena Masood condemned the “inhuman” killing of Abida, a young mother who leaves behind three small children. The Minister extended her condolences to the grieving family, assuring them of full government support in their time of loss. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the government stands by them to provide any assistance needed,” Masood said, while also praying for peace for Abida’s departed soul.
As part of the support package, Sakeena Masood handed over a cheque of Rs. 2.5 lakhs to Abida’s husband, along with a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) of Rs. 2.5 lakhs in the name of her children, intended for their future needs.
In addition, the family has already received Rs. 1.25 lakhs from the District Red Cross Fund Srinagar and the Disaster Fund Srinagar, providing further financial relief amid this tragic loss.
MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone; Deputy Commissioner Bandipora; SDM Sumbal; and other district administration officials were also present during the Minister’s visit, offering their condolences and support to the bereaved family.
This outreach is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support families affected by violence, with a focus on ensuring that children and dependents receive financial aid to help secure their future.
