Sopore

The residents of Siddique Colony, falling in vicinity of sub-district hospital Sopore have expressed displeasure over the garbage dumping on the main road.

“The municipal committee collects garbage from the entire town and dumps it here in Siddique colony, a few yards from Sopore hospital,” a local resident said.

“The street stinks all the time and it irks the patients who visit the hospital,” he said.

“Moreover, the garbage remains unattended and it is very difficult to venture out as dozens of stray dogs always hover around the place,” he said, “we are afraid to send our children out for tuitions.”

More to the annoyance of the residents, the town’s municipality office is at a stone’s throw from the place where heaps of garbage lies unattended.

“We have repeatedly approached the authorities regarding the issue, but they don’t even bother to listen to us. Leave alone solving the problem,” the local alleged.

While talking to Kashmir Life, executive officer, Town Area Committee (TAC) Sopore, GM Lone, said, “We temporarily collect garbage at that place, as there is no allotted dumping site to dispose the garbage. Due to snowfall, we couldn’t send our vehicles to lift the garbage.”
