SRINAGAR: Widespread rainfall was recorded across Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, with several areas receiving heavy precipitation, as authorities urged people to remain vigilant following an India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast of more rain until July 23.
According to rainfall data recorded till 8:30 a.m., Asham received the highest rainfall in the Kashmir Valley at 73.5 mm, followed by Sopore (55.4 mm), Wular (54.5 mm), Ganderbal (46.0 mm) and Srinagar (45.6 mm). Other notable rainfall included Pampore (21.5 mm), Budgam (15 mm), Bandipora (10.5 mm) and Gulmarg (8.2 mm).
In the Jammu region, Poonch recorded the highest rainfall at 66 mm, followed by Rajouri (54.8 mm), Katra (53.5 mm), Samba (45 mm), Jammu (42.7 mm) and Ramban (42 mm).
In view of the IMD forecast for July 20–23, the administration has issued a public advisory asking residents to remain alert and strictly follow safety guidelines during the expected spell of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas, particularly those prone to flash floods, landslides and waterlogging, and to follow official advisories as weather conditions continue to be monitored.
