SRINAGAR: Continuous heavy rainfall and land sinking have led to partial cracking of several residential houses in Samote area near Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) School in Surankote, District Poonch, officials said on Wednesday.
Officials said that the affected families have been identified as Abdul Hamid S/o Mohd Hussain, Fakhar Hussain S/o Mohd Aslam, Mohd Aslam S/o Noor Mohd, Ayaz Ahmed S/o Abdul Hamid, Abdul Majid S/o Mohd Akbar, Junaid Ahmed S/o Mohd Sadiq, Abdul Rashid S/o Mohd Sadiq, Sageer Ahmed S/o Mohd Sadiq, Mohd Ikhlaq S/o Mohd Bashir, and Tariq Mehmood S/o Mohd Bashir. All are residents of Samote near JNV School, Surankote.
Officials said the Middle School at Barwal Mohalla near JNV School has also sustained damage due to the adverse weather.
Prompt action was taken by the authorities. Approximately 50-60 family members were safely evacuated and shifted to safer locations with the coordinated efforts of officials from Police Station Surankote, SDRF Poonch, and SOG Surankote.
The local administration said it is closely monitoring the situation.
The public has been advised to remain vigilant, avoid low-lying and vulnerable areas, and follow weather advisories issued by the district administration. (GNS)
