SRINAGAR: Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed for vehicular traffic on Friday as a precautionary measure, officials said.
They said that the road was closed following a request by the R&B authorities to the traffic police to shut the thoroughfare from the Bufliaz side onwards, “keeping in view the inclement weather and incessant rains.”
The letter also noted that due to continuous rainfall, there is a risk of shooting stones as well as the occurrence of multiple landslides.
To avoid any untoward incidents and risks to life, traffic authorities were requested to close Mughal Road for vehicular movement until the weather improves. Subsequently, a senior traffic department officer confirmed to GNS that the thoroughfare has been closed. (GNS)
