A windstorm followed by heavy rains on Saturday uprooted trees, caused extensive damage to scores of residential houses and orchards in many parts of north Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Reports said that dozens of houses, apple orchards and electric poles were damaged and a number of trees were uprooted as incessant rains with windstorm lashed north Kashmir parts.

Following the windstorm, power supply in parts of north Kashmir has also been snapped due to the breaking of poles and cables.

They said that strong winds also caused damage to many residential houses at Sopore, Baramulla town, Uri, Rafiabad and Zainageer belt of the district.

They added that in Machichirand village of Uri house of Mohammad Rafiq son of Mohammad Ashraf was also damaged.

However, there was no report of any loss of life or injuries to anybody.
