SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday arrested an employee of the Rural Development Department while accepting a bribe at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
Officials said the accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahangar, son of Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Srandoo village in Achabal, Anantnag. He was working as a helper with the Rural Development Department.
An ACB official said that the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant for performing official work. Acting on the complaint, a trap was laid following due verification.
The ACB team entered the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Anantnag and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. He was immediately taken into custody and the tainted money was recovered from his possession.
The official said a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other officials were involved or if similar demands were made from others. [KNT]
