SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have foiled a major smuggling bid with the arrest of a drug peddler and recovered a huge consignment of 7-kg heroin-like substance, with a market value of Rs 35 crore, from his possession.
An official said that a police team intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle for routine frisking.
“During the frisking of the vehicle, the police recovered the huge consignment of the drugs that was kept hidden in the vehicle,” he said.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Tariq Ahmed Ganai, a resident of Bachro village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, was arrested on the spot and the vehicle was seized, said an official.
