SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday issued notice to government regarding Trauma Hospital which according to a news report is non-functional for the last 10 years.’

A division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rajnesh Oswal ordered that news report, ‘Trauma Hospital Non-functional for last 10 years’ be registered as Public Interest Litigation.

“The newspaper report shows that the Hospital is non-functional on account of the shortage of staff and infrastructure machinery,” the court said and issued notice to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir through Secretary, Health and Medical Education. The Secretary has been asked to “show cause as to why this writ petition be not admitted to hearing.”

“The respondent shall file a status report positively before the next date of hearing,” the court said and posted the matter on June 16.  The court also appointed Monika Kohli, Advocate as Amicus curiae in the matter. (GNS)
