High danger avalanche warning has been issued for higher reaches of Naugam, Kaiyan and Gurez sector for the next 24 hours. Medium danger avalanche for higher reaches of Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Keran, Machil, Sonamarg, Gulmarg and Uri has also been issued. People staying in snow bound areas of these locations have been advised not to venture in avalanche prone areas.
Meanwhile Srinagar-Jammu Highway remained closed on Saturday. No commercial flight operated due to poor visibility from Srinagar airport. “The weather is likely to improve on Saturday 19th January,” local weather office said here.
