Highlighting the importance of greater coordination among different agencies, Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, Thursday asked the cops to work with added discipline and dedication for providing better policing to the people besides getting people’s cooperation at all levels.

Prasad was speaking at a high level meeting of senior officers of police, para-military and civil administration held at PCR Srinagar this afternoon to finalize the security arrangements for Republic Day celebration. The meeting also discussed the law and order scenario in Kashmir Province.

Expressing satisfaction over law and order situation in the valley, the DGP said that a comprehensive mechanism is being evolved to mount pressure on the anti-social elements and to keep sustained peace maintained. He said that greater synergy among different agencies could yield better results on this front. “People’s cooperation would help the forces to achieve desired goal”, he added.

The meeting was informed that the main function would be held at Bakshi Stadium, besides other functions at all district and tehsil headquarters. All required arrangements have been made for the security of the venues and necessary police bandobust has also been made in this regard.

The DGP asked the officers to deploy sufficient manpower in and around the venues to ensure smooth conduct of celebration. He also asked to formulate a comprehensive police bandobust for maintaining the law and order throughout the province. He said that all necessary efforts should be made to thwart nefarious designs of anti-national elements. He said that nobody should be allowed to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the state.

Prasad stressed upon the officers that while making traffic arrangements, it should be ensured that common people do not face any inconvenience in reaching the venues.

The IGP Kashmir Zone, S. M. Sahai, apprised the meeting about the steps being taken for smooth conduct of the celebration in the Kashmir Division. He said that all sources have been activated and information gathering accelerated to ensure peaceful celebration.

All range Deputy Inspectors General of Police and District Superintendents of Police of the province were present in the meeting, who also briefed the DGP about the arrangements made in their respective jurisdictions for smooth conduct of RD functions.
