SRINAGAR

Due to of heavy rain and snowfall, the 294-km long Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for vehicular traffic for the second consecutive day Friday. However, officials said more than 2000 vehicles stranded on the highway since Thursday were cleared on Friday.

Inspector General Police (IGP) Traffic Muneer Ahmad Khan told KNS that more than two thousands stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective destinations on Friday on priority. “Subject to clear weather and better road condition, the highway will be opened for one way traffic on Saturday. However, only light vehicles will be allowed to ply from Srinagar to Jammu and no heavy vehicle will be allowed to move on the highway,” he said.

Khan said that a portion of road near Magarkot on the highway has been washed away by the landslides and to restore it will take some time.

He advised the passengers to confirm the status of the highway before proceeding on their journey.
