Terming the police claims of having busted a militant sleeper cell a white lie, militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen Wednesday said that it has become of routine for Indian police to torture and then label innocent people as militants.

In a statement to CNS, Hizb spokesperson Salim Hashmi while quoting outfit Chief Commander Syed Salahuddin said, “for promotional purposes, Indian police have been labelling innocent people as militant.”

Addressing a meeting of Hizb Command Council, Salahuddin while paying rich tributes to Tariq Ahmed Mir alias Zahid said, “he was an sore in the eyes of Indian Security Agencies. Tariq was a brave and bold militant who was giving sleepless night to the Indian Intelligence agencies. He had caused immense damage and his enemies were scared of him.”

Pertinently, Tariq who was an associate of expelled Hizb Commander Qayoom Najar died of ‘drowning’ and his body had recovered from Naidkhai rivulet. Police had held him responsible for the attack on police party at Mirgund Pattan and had said that he jumped into the rivulet to evade his arrest.
