SRINAGAR: Senior IPS officer, HK Lohia is no more. He was Director General Prisons Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources confirmed his death in mysterious circumstances.
“We are confirming the details but we have been told that he has been murdered,” one police officer said.
The tragedy has taken place at his Udaywala, Jammu. He had taken over the Prison Department on August 3, 2022.
Reports said his throat slit body has been recovered and his domestic help is absconding. Police are busy in investigations at the crime scene.
The murder took place within hours after the Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Jammu. The security grid was in a state of high alert because of the high profile visit.
Reports appearing in media quoted Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu saying: “First examination of the scene of crime reveals this as a suspected murder case. The domestic help with the officer is absconding. A search for him has started.”
The body of the officer has been evacuated to a hospital for mandatory medical investigations including autopsy.
A young Prison Department official who usually speaks for the department was contacted. She said she is not aware of the development.
