Coming down heavily on militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen, Deputy Inspector General of Police North Kashmir J.P Singh Sunday said that this outfit is killing unarmed innocent policemen and civilians which depicts its sheer frustration. “HM is misleading police by declaring that Saqib, one of its active commanders is not affiliated with the outfit. We don’t trust HM, it can go to any extent to fulfill its interests,” he told news gathering agency CNS adding that militancy in North Kashmir is confined to Sopore town only.

Terming the killing of SPO in Sopore Town as unfortunate, DIG North Kashmir appealed the people of Sopore to expose the limited number of militants present in the town. “I appeal to the people of Sopore to expose these militants as they are responsible for the killing of innocent people,” he said.

Admitting that it has become very difficult for the police to nab the militants in Sopore town as according to him militants stroll and move without carrying weapons in the town. “Militants have changed their strategy now. The carry weapons only at the time of attack. Once they carry out the attack, they dump the weapon and live like common people,” Singh told CNS.

He said that there are only 30 militants present in North Kashmir amoung which five are non-locals. “Majority of the militants are present in North Kashmir who strike at unarmed Sarpanchs and policemen to show their presence,” he said.

DIG North Kashmir said that overall the graph of militancy has decreased in North Kashmir. “We have gunned down top militant commanders while the hunt to nab or kill the other militants is on. We would hopefully curb the militancy in the region,” he said adding that SPO Mudasir killed by local militants was unarmed and in plain clothes when militants fired upon him
