SRINAGAR

Scores of youth early Wednesday blocked busy Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road at Umarabad, HMT in city outskirts.

Reports reaching here said that people from Zainakote area came down in groups and are staging protest demonstration against CRPF “excesses”.

Locals said that on Tuesday locals were protesting against the irregular power supply. “CRPF used force in the area in the evening,” they said.

“And today we saw the CRPF camp which is housed inside HMT factory has started taking more area under them,” the locals said, “there is a cricket ground which borders the HMT factory and CRPF personnel are putting barbed wire inside the ground.”

They added, “the locals are now protesting the illegal occupation of the ground.”

Pertinently, an engineering youth, Gowhar Nazir, was killed recently in forces action at Zainakote. His family and locals blamed the same CRPF personnel who are putting up inside the camp for killing the youth.

Even MLA of the area from ruling PDP, Sheikh Noor Muhammad, has asked government to remove the camp from the area.

Meanwhile, PRO CRPF told Kashmir Life, “there is a campaign going on in the area to dislodge CRPF camp from the HMT complex. Today’s protest is a part of that.” “There is no information available about land grabbing,” he added.
