Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, the Srinagar Deputy Commissioner who is at the forefront of managing the quarantine facilities said that the home delivery of Public Distribution System (PDS) ration for 1.6 lac families in Srinagar will start from March 28.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to observe lockdown across India for 21 days to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has already issued a list of essential commodities and all the goods vehicles including those carrying essential items will be allowed to ply with proper permits or passes issued by the concerned District Administration.

Educational institutions across Kashmir have already been closed, while all public places including gymnasiums, parks, clubs and restaurants have been shut down.

Restrictions were first imposed in many parts of the valley on Thursday to contain the spread of the virus.

So far, the valley has registered four positive cases of the coronavirus.
