The decision follows concerns about financial and administrative mismanagement in the water supply scheme aimed at providing tap water to rural households.

The committee held its first meeting today at the Legislative Assembly Complex, Civil Secretariat Srinagar. The meeting was chaired by MLA Hasnain Masoodi, who has been appointed as the committee chairman.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Ali Mohammad Dar, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Ajaz Ahmad Jan, Rajiv Jasrotia, Rambir Singh Pathania, Tanveer Sadiq, Javed Riyaz Bedar, Muzafer Iqbal Khan, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Arjun Singh Raju, and Iftikhar Ahmad.

The committee will examine the execution of projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. It will look into reported lapses in fund disbursement, delays in implementation, and technical non-compliance. The members will review official records, conduct inspections, and consult relevant stakeholders before submitting a report to the Assembly.

The move follows protests during the previous session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, where members of the ruling National Conference and some opposition parties demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the matter. (JKNS)
