Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under house arrest on 8 May and he was again denied to attend the Friday prayers while as police Friday arrested a senior leader of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Raja Mehraj-ud-din and detained him in the police station and on 7 May evening police raided the residence of Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar.

Terming the government action as state terrorism, Hurriyat conference activists Friday held a protest demonstration in Lal Chowk against this act and demanded immediate release of Syed Ali Geelani. The separatist activists held protest demonstration after the Friday prayers and dozens of them were arrested by the police on the occasion. Those who were arrested include Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Syed Imtiyaz Hyder, Umar Adil Dar, Gazi Javaid, Mohammad Yousuf Mir and Mohammad Rafiq Najar. Police stopped the protesters from moving ahead and forced them to disperse.
