Stressing that the main victims of the cross-border firing are often “innocent” people living along the line of divide on both sides, the spokesperson said that apart from the loss of lives due to firing and mortar shelling, the people living along the border are the worst suffers and they often flee from their homes to safer places.

He said that the main cause of tension between the two countries is the pending Kashmir dispute and it is due to this “lingering” dispute that both the countries have fought wars.

“There is a war like situation continues to prevail on the borders even present day. Hurriyat stated that besides Indo-Pak the unresolved Kashmir dispute has created insecurity and instability in the entire South Asia.”

The statement stressed that the dialogue was the only way to move forward. It further stated that both countries should take steps on priority basis to find a solution to the Kashmir dispute.
