Strongly denouncing the government’s decision of caging Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his Nigeen residence and putting him under house arrest and not allowing him to attend a seminar, Hurriyat (M) spokesman said that it reflects the “frustration” and complete “highhandedness” of the authorities.

The spokesman in a statement said that a huge contingent of forces and police was also deployed outside  Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal to create an atmosphere of fear and to ensure that workers couldn’t assemble at the venue for participation in the meeting. Hurriyat said that disallowing the participation of leadership in peaceful public meetings, seminars and gatherings are reflective of the “iron fist” policy of the Govt and clearly indicates the fact that there is absolutely no space for any peaceful political activity in Kashmir. Hurriyat said that these measures cannot put down the leadership or the freedom loving people of Kashmir into submission.

Hurriyat also s condemned the detention of senior leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza along with his colleagues and lodging them in police station Sheerbagh Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed his heartfelt condolences to JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik on the demise of his close relative, Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh of Maisuma, Mirwaiz prayed for highest standards in Jannah for the deceased and patience to the bereaved family members.
