Srinagar: A joint meeting of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Executive Council, General Council and Working Committee presided over by APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq was held at APHC Headquarters at Rajbagh on Wednesday, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said.

The meeting was attended by APHC Executive Council members Moulana Abbas Ansari, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone and Mukhtar Ahmad Waza.

During the meeting, a comprehensive discussion was held on the ongoing political situation in Kashmir and the political developments in the region along with the challenges faced by the resistance movement. The leadership decided to continue the discussion in this regard.

It was held in the meeting that peace in South Asia would continue to remain elusive until Kashmir issue was resolved either in accordance with the United Nations resolutions or through a meaningful dialogue among the people of Kashmir, New Delhi and Islamabad.

The meeting stated that the rulers of India and their “local collaborators”, in order to push the pro-freedom leaders and the people of Kashmir towards wall, have adopted oppressive polices and tactics against them. It stated that as such, the people are being put behind bars, the arrest of youth is going on at large scale and often use of notorious pellet gun continues against Kashmiris. It was further stated that India was attempting to crush the genuine struggle and aspirations of Kashmiris by use of brutal force in order to bring them on the knees, however, the use of coercion and suppression has not succeeded to make Kashmiris submit in the past nor is it ever going to succeed in dampening the freedom spirit of the resistance leaders and its people.

Asserting that Kashmir was not an issue of law and order but a political issue involving the political future of the people of J&K, the meeting stated that it was in the larger interest of the people of entire South Asia to address and resolve this vexed issue in order to take out billions of people of this region out of political uncertainty and towards a bright future.

Expressing serious concern over the condition of thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners languishing in different jails and police stations in and outside Kashmir, it was described as the worst policy of political vendetta of the ruling class. The meeting demanded immediate release of all such political prisoners.

Besides the Executive council, the meeting was attended by the members of Hurriyat General Council and members of the Working Committee including Advocate Abdul Majid Banday (Political Advisor), Javaid Ahmad Mir, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Abdul Mannan Bukhari, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Khaleel Muhammad Khaleel, Abdul Majeed Wani, Syed Muzaffar Rizvi, Abdul Rashid Untoo, Jaffar Kashmiri, Farooq Ahmad Mamoosi, Ghulam Nabi Najar, Engineer Fayaz and Ghulam Hassan Mir.
