Paying rich tributes on the 22nd anniversary to the victims of Kupwara massacre, All Party Hurriyat Conference (m), spokesperson Tuesday said 22 years ago “Indian forces in an unprovoked firing killed around 30 civilians and injured dozens of others on January 27, 1994 in the frontier town”.

The spokesperson said, “with the killing of 30 civilians in Kupwara, the forces added another black spot on the democratic credentials of India.” “Forces involved in this barbaric human tragedy had neither been brought to the book nor had been justice delivered to the victim families, so far.”

The Hurriyat spokesperson said, “forces had carried out many Kupwara-like incidents of bloodshed in Kashmir in the last 27 years in which countless people were killed and property worth billions destroyed.” “Following such mass killing incidents, the authorities though had announced the probe and actions against the guilty in various incidents but never was any guilty person brought to justice or punished.”

The spokesman said not only did the culprits involved in these massacres “enjoy the government cover but also most of the cases were hushed up and closed with the passing of time”.
