Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has offered to resign if opposition proves the allegation that NC is buying the Panch and Sarpanch support for the forthcoming legislative council elections, a local news gathering agency KMN reported. He has made the offer in his Thursday speech to ‘voters’ in his Ganderbal constituency that was fairly attended despite inclement weather.

Terming opposition PDP as “dream merchants”, Omar said the allegations the party is leveling is untrue and hoax. If they will prove that NC is buying support, he will not hesitate to put in his papers. “The fact is that this party is behind issuing threats to the Panchs and spreading rumours,” Omar was quoted saying. He accused PDP of sending “envelops of money”, hosting Wazwan for them. “They are even offering make-up kits to the female panchs and sarpanchs,” Omar claimed. “But they must know the kit contain a mini-scissor that we will use to blunt the nib of their pen (a reference to PDP election symbol).”

Omar accused PDP of spreading falsehood which is aimed at creating problems in the coalition. He told Panchs that PDP was never serious for having Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI). Showering praises on elected Panchs, Omar told them that some people including some lawmakers are feeling insecure “because of you”. He assured them the party will take care of their empowerment and remuneration but insisted that providing individual security may not be possible at all.

Other significant issue that Omar tackled was the cabinet reshuffle. He announced that in case the results of the four legislative council seats were in favour of the ruling coalition he will immediately go for cabinet reshuffle. There are around five berths vacant in the council of ministers he is heading.
