Mohammad Aijaz Chowdhary IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Khansahib, Budgam gets  state award for best electoral practices-2015 from Election commission of India. Aijaz is a 2012 batch IAS officer and was returning officer for Khansahib area of Budgam district..

“He has been given this award for his outstanding contribution in the recently held assembly elections in Khansahib area,” the statement released by ECI informed. “Under his leadership as Returning Officer, the Khansahib  area witnessed a voter turnout of 81.16% in the Assembly elections-2014 compared to a voter turnout of 30.80% in the Lok Sabha election-2014.”

His contribution in launching various SVEEP (Systematic voters’ education and electoral participation) initiatives and in maintaining proper law and order situation has been well recognized by the Election Commission.

“Besides, he has the distinction of bridging the gender gap from 9.17% in Lok Sabha elections to a gap of 0.06% in Assembly election,” the statement informed. “He also took commendable initiatives in mainstreaming the Blind voters and other differently-abled voters.”

Aijaz is an engineering graduate from IIT Delhi and was the first person from District Poonch to get into IAS in 2012 from Gujjar community.

“I am proud of the people of Khansahib who wholeheartedly cooperated with him during the conduct of elections,” Aijaz said. “I want to dedicate this award to the people of Khansahib.”
