An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected and later defused Friday on the Moghal road in the peripheries of Shopian town of South Kashmir, police sources said.

The IED was fitted in a lighting gas cylinder and was planted inside an orchard near Padpawan village.

They added that the IED weighing 5 Kg was detected by a road opening party of the army. Later on Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was rushed to the spot that defused it and averted a major incident.

Traffic from both the sides of Mughal road was halted for hours together after the detection of the IED. The vehicles were allowed to move only after defusing the IED.
